Training
ÂTrainees
The practice enjoys Practice Accreditation status from the Royal College of General Practitioners and is a training practice for GP Trainees and medical students.
We are a small, friendly, semi-rural practice located 10 minutes south of Ayr. All staff members are passionate about training and have an open door policy, where we are happy to provide teaching and support at any point.
We would be delighted to welcome you as a GP trainee and you can expect a warm greeting from all members of our team. We provide tutorials with experienced members of staff and a supportive learning environment that encourages you to develop the wide variety of skills required as a GP. As part of the Ayrshire and Arran training programme, you will receive structured day-release teaching fortnightly and will attend 2 residential events during your ST3 year with other ST3s and their trainers. These events give you valuable mock-CSA practice, exploration of curriculum topics that can be difficult to cover and the chance to socialise with local GPs.
If you are interested in the training opportunities available at the practice, we would be happy to provide further information or welcome you for an informal visit. Please contact Tracey Malone, Practice Manager to discuss at clinical_practice_maybolemedicalpractice_80491@aapct.scot.nhs.uk
Patients
GP Registrars are fully qualified doctors, with several years’ experience of hospital medicine, who are learning to become GPs. They complete an intensive 3 year Specialist GP Training Programme in which they are attached to the Practice for 18 months with a further 18 months training undertaken in hospital.
As part of their training they are expected to video a number of consultations and we are grateful to those patients who permit this.
The recorded consultations are:
- used for analysis and assessment alongside their Trainer
- in order to improve and develop GP consulting skills
- reviewed in confidence between the Trainee and Trainer for the purposes of training
- stored safely or encrypted when awaiting review
- erased once viewed
Your consent will always be obtained before and after a consultation with a trainee GP. You do not have to agree to your consultation with the doctor being recorded and this will not affect your healthcare in any way. We may also ask our patients for feedback (Questionnaire) on the Trainees at specified times in their training.
Many thanks for your cooperation in this. Together we aim to ensure excellent GPs for the future.
