Our GPs provide overarching responsibility for patient care and handle most serious, acute and complex issues.

Dr Lucy Adams

MB ChB Glasgow 1997 DRCOG MRCGP 2002 DFSRH

Dr Adams graduated from Glasgow University in 1997 and has been working as a GP in Ayrshire and Arran for over 25 years. 

She has an interest in Women’s Health and holds diplomas in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Sexual and Reproductive Health.

Dr Adams works all day Monday, Tuesday and a half day on Wednesday morning.

Dr Martin was born and raised in Northern Ireland and graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1982.

He has had a long and varied career in medicine and has spent time working in the UK and South Africa.

Dr Martin has a keen interest in Men’s Health and Sports Medicine. He is a keen Hockey player and still plays at a national level.

Dr Martin works a half day on Thursday and all day on Friday.

Dr Mairi Barr

Dr Barr graduated from Glasgow University in 2010, she is Ayrshire born and bred and has loved setting down roots here for her own young family.

Dr Barr has special interests in joint injections, Diabetes and woman’s health.

Dr Barr works on a Wednesday afternoon, and all day Thursday and Friday.

Dr Gayle Vernon

Born and raised in Dumfries and Galloway, Dr Vernon graduated from Aberdeen University in 2012. After graduation she completed foundation and GP training in Glasgow, before moving and settling in Ayrshire with her family.

She has a keen interest in Dermatology, women’s health and medical education. Dr Vernon is also an accredited trainer for the GP trainee programme and supervises GP trainees within the practice.

Dr Vernon works all day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

What do the letters after a Doctor’s name mean?

MB ChB/MBBS – Batchelor of Medicine and Surgery. This is the standard qualification each medical student is awarded after 5 years of University Training. Although the student are officially recognised as ‘doctors’ at this stage, they require a further one years experience as a junior house officer in a hospital post before they become fully qualified doctors in the eyes of the General Medical Council.

MRCGP – Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners. A postgraduate medical qualification in the United Kingdom.

DFSRH/DFFP – Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health. This is a recognition of having acquired additional skills in the field of contraception and sexual health.

DRCOG – Diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. This is a voluntary exam undertaken by GP’s in training to recognise specialist knowledge in the field of s pregnancy and women’s health

DCH – Diploma in Child Health. This is a similar exam to the DRCOG and recognises additional skills in the field of child health and Paediatrics.

DPD – Diploma in Practical Dermatology this is a diploma for GP’s with a special interest in Dermatological conditions.
